The primary purpose of the software is to provide a tool to accurately and comprehensively record the inventory of mineral collections (with the minimum of effort) and use that information to generate specimen labels and professional inventory / financial reports to various designs.
MineralDB also acts as an electronic reference for mineral property and locality data. Mineral identification tools allow the data to be interrogated for mineral identification or research purposes.
The softwares unique feature is its integration of the mineral, locality and collection catalogue databases. In addition to the seamless side by side display of specimen and mineral property information, during data entry, this design reduces typing effort and improves consistency of locality information. The same locality details should never need to be keyed in twice.
